A Modular Greenhouse Where You Can Grow Plants and Rest

Finding a balance between function and atmosphere in the garden isn’t always simple. Helsinki architect Ville Hara of Avanto Architects, together with designer Linda Bergroth, has explored this idea with a modular structure that combines the roles of garden shed and greenhouse. It can support small-scale cultivation while also serving as a light-filled getaway.

The shed is built from Finnish pine and toughened safety glass, materials chosen for their strength and connection to local craft. The glass brings in light for plants, while the wood frames ground the structure in its natural setting.

Because of the modular design, the shed can be adjusted to different lengths. This flexibility makes it possible to create anything from a compact greenhouse for seasonal herbs to a larger space for more extensive planting.

Behind the greenhouse space, the design includes a storage area. With adjustable shelving, it offers room for tools, pots, and other essentials. This integration of storage and cultivation makes the sheds practical as well as atmospheric.

Rather than treating storage and cultivation as separate needs, this design brings them together in a single adaptable structure. It’s a small-scale example of how architecture can shape everyday routines in thoughtful ways.
