Villa Boë, designed by Alexis Dornier, is set high above Lombok’s Tampah Hills. Built into one of the steepest sites of the development, the home blends architecture with landscape, shaping a layered structure that feels as much like land art as it does a residence.
Positioned at the top of Tampah Hills, Villa Boë sits on one of the highest and most dramatic lots in Lombok, Indonesia. From its hillside perch, the home takes in sweeping views of the ocean and rolling hills below.
The home’s design is guided by the terrain. Its vertical layout adapts to the steep hillside, stacking functions across several levels. The geometry is based on concentric circles and radial segments, allowing the roofs and volumes to orient naturally with the hilltop. Teak wood ceilings, off-white walls, and Palimanan stone ground the design in its tropical context.
The swimming pool is woven seamlessly into the home’s layout. It’s part of the overall landscape, connected by gentle shifts in level and soft transitions that make the pool feel integral rather than separate.
The terrace, with steps down to the main pool, also includes a variety of seating areas, as well as small kid’s pool.
The social areas open up after the entry, bringing together the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Walls of windows fills the interior with an abundance of natural light, while the wood ceiling and furniture adds warmth to the home.
A series of steps and platforms connect each level, creating a rhythm that mirrors the contours of the site. These pathways move residents from communal areas to private quarters in a way that feels both practical and sculptural.
A terrace on the upper level of the home provides views that stretch over the ocean and hills, offering a peaceful space to pause and take in the surroundings.
Two distinct sleeping wings, each created for a family, form the private side of the home. Their placement ensures privacy while maintaining a direct relationship with the outdoor setting. The bedrooms are neutral in their appearance with natural materials and textures.
Among the home’s more striking details is a bathroom featuring a round tub. This space emphasizes calm and relaxation, tying back to the home’s vision of balance between design and nature.
This home shows how architecture can highlight and honor its surroundings. Poised and deliberate, it sits on the hillside, framing the views while staying rooted in Lombok’s natural beauty.
