In cities like Taipei, Taiwan, compact living has become a reality for many young residents. Every square foot counts, and smart, creative design decisions are essential to make small apartments functional and comfortable.

Working with A Little Design, the owners of this 236-square-foot (22 sqm) apartment set out to maximize every corner, creating a home that feels open yet fully equipped.

Upon entering, the apartment opens into a narrow hallway. To the left, a cleverly arranged kitchen features a small cooktop, mini-fridge, washer/dryer, and essential storage, making it practical without crowding the space.

On the right, the bathroom relies on white tiles to keep the area bright and airy. Two strategically placed mirrors further enhance the sense of space by reflecting light and making the bathroom feel larger than its modest dimensions.

Beyond the kitchen, the apartment opens into the main living area. A built-in sofa provides comfortable seating while bar tables along the wall serve dual purposes. They can function as a desk, counter, or even slide into the center as a dining table, demonstrating flexibility in a compact home.

Storage is cleverly integrated through high cubes accessed by a ladder, leading toward the bedroom area, which includes a small built-in desk. The loft bedroom sits above the bathroom and is reachable via a compact staircase. With a ceiling height of just 10 ft 10 in (3.3 m), the loft is low, allowing for sleeping and sitting but not standing. Despite the limited vertical space, it remains functional and cozy.
