Lucid Architecture organized the home into three distinct zones: public, private, and support. The public spaces, living, dining, and two fireplaces, sit at the core, while private and support areas are clad in wood that will weather naturally. Large windows connect the home to Lake Michigan, but guests only see the interior as they move through the entry. Concrete and glass balance transparency and solidity, creating a design that feels both modern and grounded in its natural setting.
Modern Elegance Meets Rugged Shoreline
The home’s exterior combines sustainable Accoya wood, raw concrete, and painted steel. Wood wraps the private areas, adapting to weather and blending with the shoreline. Steel and concrete define public zones, anchoring the glass-filled spaces. High R-value assemblies, mineral wool insulation, and extended overhangs improve energy efficiency, while the material palette highlights modern elegance against the rugged lakefront.
A Discreet Arrival with Dramatic Views
The entry is discreet, hidden behind an exposed concrete wall. A view through the four-season room guides visitors to the water beyond. The driveway and garage lead seamlessly to the home, but solid walls and high clerestory windows keep road activity private. Concrete and wood create a welcoming yet understated approach, preparing guests for the interior’s dramatic reveal.
Glass Walls Bring the Lake Inside
A floor-to-ceiling window wall defines the living and dining areas. Outboard steel framing allows uninterrupted views of Lake Michigan, while a monolithic concrete fireplace anchors the space. Natural light floods the kitchen, dining, and living zones, creating a warm, airy environment. The layout balances openness with intimacy, offering lakefront views while maintaining privacy from the road.

Integrated into the public zone, the kitchen benefits from the same expansive window wall. Cooking overlooks the lake, connecting daily life with the outdoors.
