Presented at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025, Metric by B&T is a modular system designed by Alp Nuhoğlu that blends visual rhythm, adaptable modularity, and tailored comfort, conceived to meet the evolving needs of today’s collective and professional spaces.
In a design landscape increasingly focused on flexibility and connection, Metric sofa introduces a modular seating system that responds to the renewed demands of shared environments. Unveiled at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025—one of the leading global platforms for furniture design—the project marks yet another milestone in B&T’s exploration of contract design and commemorates the brand’s 30th anniversary with a piece that merges architectural intention with everyday utility.
But how can a piece of furniture transform the way we interact in shared spaces? Metric offers a tangible answer, combining balance with design intelligence. It’s a solution that invites rethinking not only how we sit, but how we inhabit.

The designer: Alp Nuhoğlu and his vision
Created by Alp Nuhoğlu, Design Director at B&T Design, Metric sofa is a system where form, rhythm, and modular composition foster environments built for interaction. Known for his minimalist yet inviting approach, Nuhoğlu brings his longstanding collaboration with the Turkish brand to life in this project. Its name hints at the measured geometry conveyed through clean lines, vertical panels, and modular components that define a flexible landscape. These design decisions are not merely stylistic—they reflect a precise spatial philosophy that gives Metric its distinctive identity. A natural balance of formal clarity and genuine warmth infuses the design with quiet yet unmistakable strength.

A modular language that connects
The conceptual heart of Metric lies in connection—between people, between environments, between spaces. Its most defining feature is the vertical panels of varying heights attached to the backrests and armrests, generating a sculptural visual rhythm. More than decorative, these panels serve as soft dividers, organizing micro-environments and offering gentle privacy without rigidity. Thus, the system assumes an architectural role while maintaining fluidity and approachability—a visual grammar of volume and voids, intended to enable dialogue through space. Every line, every gap, every module participates in a silent choreography of presence and openness.

Comfort, materials and tailored precision
Aesthetic or function? Why choose, when Metric sofa delivers both in measured harmony. Crafted with CNC-cut high-resilience (HR) cold foam, the structure guarantees sculptural precision and consistent comfort. The fixed seat cushions, engineered for durability, provide both firmness and softness—ideal for high-traffic environments. A standout feature is the integrated side table—available in Neolith, lacquer, natural veneer, or marble—which increases the system’s utility across lobbies, waiting rooms, offices, and hybrid spaces.
Whether you’re resting a coffee cup or hosting a brief meeting, the table turns the sofa into a small functional hub. Every element underscores B&T’s signature equilibrium: structural precision meets tactile elegance. From gentle curves to meticulous stitching, Metric embodies artisanal care that meets professional standards without sacrificing user comfort.
B&T Design – London Showroom
A strategic presence at Clerkenwell Design Week
The launch occurred in Clerkenwell, London, during Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 (May 20–22), the event’s 14th edition. With over 160 brands, numerous showrooms, installations, and talks, the week reiterated its standing as a creative epicenter. But in such a fertile environment of diverse visions, what role does a project like Metric play? The answer lies in its clarity of purpose. This isn’t just about visibility. It’s about cultural positioning—for B&T, it means asserting its design ethos in the global conversation among designers, architects, and industry professionals.

A system that narrates space: more than a sofa
In this setting, Metric sofa stands out as a strategic addition to B&T’s portfolio—a design communicating through modular form and structural rhythm, not mere spectacle. From open-plan areas to waiting zones, the system encourages pause and connection, offering a fresh interpretation of the “meeting place.” With Metric, Alp Nuhoğlu delivers more than seating: it’s a tool for spatial storytelling, turning furniture into relational infrastructure. It doesn’t shout; it suggests. A backdrop that can frame both moments of solitude and spontaneous collaboration.
Its configurational flexibility (more modular sofas here) and atmospheric nuance align seamlessly with contemporary interior design, which increasingly values multifunctionality and experience. By combining formal clarity with design adaptability, Metric sofa consolidates B&T’s vision: crafting environments that unite aesthetics and utility, empathy and precision—embedding meaning into the evolving rhythms of collective life.
